Whole Child Classroom Management: Creating a Classroom Environment that Supports Teaching and Learning around Best Practices. 

All teachers have a classroom management plan that works for some students; but what is happening day to day during the school year, do you see a pattern that the students are starting to struggle more with behavior and social skills? Time to Flip the Behavior before it impacts teaching and learning. Walk away with best practice strategies that you can use in your school tomorrow.

Participants will: Identify Tier 1 interventions that will support all students, understand how to use some tools and strategies to support students and staff with behaviors, identify some classroom best practices around supporting students with mental health issues, and develop a school-wide process to support families that might be struggling with social and emotional issues.

Goals/Outcomes of Whole Child Classroom Management:

● Address the staff environment and look at best practices for adult self-care

● Advance social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes as the foundation for academic and life success

● Create a positive, predictable, nurturing environment for staff, students, and families

● Address discipline disparities and disproportionality in special education

● Maintain the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities

● Provide teachers with tools to effectively support social-emotional development and behavioral functioning

● Improve academic engagement and achievement

• 11:00-12:00 Tier 1 Classroom Best Practices that promote belonging, well being, and engagement
• 12:00-1:00 Lunch
• 1:00-2:00 Planning Template to Continuously Improve Classroom Practices
• 2:00 - 2:30 Self Reflection Fitting the Practices into your Typical day 
• 2:30 - 2:45 Break
• 2:45-3:30 Creating Support for students that are struggling in the classroom and not responding to Tier 1
• 3:30 - 4:00 Reflection, Questions, and Resources

This PD opportunity will earn participants 5.5 BOSA CEUs.

About the presenter: Mr. Curtis Slater has had the pleasure to work in the U.S public school system for the past 30 years. He has been a paraprofessional in a level 4 EBD program, Teacher, Dean of Students, Associate Principal, and Principal. He has had the opportunity to train over 800 schools around positive school culture, social/emotional learning, RTI, and MTSS frameworks. He works with the University of Minnesota around a TIER 2 intervention system that supports staff and students, the system is IM4. He was the 2018 National Distinguished Principal of the Year for Minnesota. He is a trainer, speaker, and coach that works with school systems around the country to support nurturing, caring, positive, engaging environments that support staff, students, families, and communities. Mr. Slater is also a co-founder of TILL360Consulting in Minneapolis. TILL360 works with school systems that support the whole child approach.
