Join us for our 7th cohort of the MESPA Literacy Academy!

Reading Well by Third Grade requires the school principal to be a strong, knowledgeable instructional leader, who is able to develop both collaboration across a community, and a systematic, data-based review of what is and what can be achieved in school literacy. The goal is to establish a culture of literacy ensuring that all students achieve.

Presented by Bonnie Houck, Ph.D., the MESPA Literacy Academy invites principals and their leadership teams to an interactive learning experience that will guide principals and literacy leadership teams in developing effective practices to observe and work with teachers to address professional learning and resource needs identified through the classroom visits, teacher survey and other data. The MESPA Literacy Academy will take place over the course of four full day sessions strategically scheduled across a four-month period, allowing participants to implement ideas, collect observational data, and bring back examples of their work for discussion with peers.

Daily content breakdown:
Day 1 (Thu Aug 1): Define Effective Reading Instruction
Day 2 (Fri Aug 2): Understanding the Literacy Classroom Visit Model
Day 3 (Fri Oct 25): Analyze Date from First Classroom Visits & Determine Next Round of Data Collection
Day 4 (Fri Nov 22): Create Professional Learning Plan to Address Growth Areas
Earn 6 CEUs each day!
