MESPA is UPonGREEN!

We all know the mantra:  reduce, reuse, recycle -- and it’s a good mantra, but how do we make sure our environmental actions are meaningful? As we strive to reduce MESPA’s carbon footprint and be as responsible as possible in simplifying and reducing our use of resources, how do we assess the results and measure the success of our association’s efforts? In answer to these questions, MESPA has gone UPonGREEN!

Aside from the importance of family, there are no greater priorities to ensure the well-being of our society than focusing on:
  1. education, and
  2. the environment.
UPonGREEN has designed a simple solution that unites those two principles, empowering schools and students to take the leadership position in the environmental movement. With national participation beginning in schools, we can measurably and significantly improve the core strengths of our future, including our: education, economy environment, health, family purpose, safety, national security and global stature.
UPonGREEN provides a very simple tool that allows all schools to engage in the 'green' movement; and when unified, U.S. schools will assume a leadership position setting precedence for all other areas of society to follow.  Because UPonGREEN is not passive but rather connective and measurable, schools will be able to see how they have inspired other industries and areas of society.

With the viral capabilities of UPonGREEN and the EcoTree, schools and students will be able to literally witness how they have created exponential national progress on many levels and be publicly recognized for doing so. With this solution, UPonGREEN hopes to instate the term "Eco Heros" in schools, demonstrating how even the youngest children are able to affect national change when given a simple tool and a little encouragement.

UPonGREEN provides a simple and actionable tool for schools to:
  • engage and excel in the environmental movement,
  • reduce their expenses,
  • communicate their efforts,
  • provide a soft curriculum around 'green' to promote higher awareness, understanding and advancements in environmental products, technologies and solutions, and
  • involve and unite students, families and communities to participate with schools.

Additionally, with national school participation UPonGREEN can:
  1. Help create national best practice recommendations for schools beyond the UPonGREEN criteria.
  2. Help evaluate, recommend and source eco-preferred products for schools.
  3. Leverage national purchasing power to help schools have access to the most functional and eco-responsible products available without negatively impacting each schools' bottom-line. (In fact, UPonGREEN's goal is to help reduce the costs  to improve each school's bottom-line and their environmental impact in tandem.)
  4. Help reform recycling practices to create national consistency inside and outside of schools.
  5. Help provide funding to keep schools and education in the leadership position environmentally.
