Renewing on-line

In July 2007, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Board of Teaching, with support from Education Minnesota, the Minnesota Board of School Administrators, Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association, Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals, and Minnesota Association of School Administrators began offering administrators the same convenience and faster processing time with the on-line clock hour and renewal systems (Center for Educator Licensing) that previously were available only to teachers.

The superintendent is responsible for designating a school district administrator as an official in his/her district to record the completion of administrative clock hours. Because administrative clock hours are pre-approved by MBSA, the official designee makes no determination for clock hour acceptance, but only records the number of approved hours completed on the clock hour site.

Once a total of 125 clock hours has been entered, administrators are eligible to renew their license(s) online using a credit card through a separate secure Web site. On-line renewals are usually processed within 48 hours. Through this same Web site, an administrator can also view the total number of accumulated administrative and teaching clock hours entered.

When it is time for the designated district official and superintendent to renew their administrative license, they will send their pre-approved clock hour certificates directly to the MBSA and the Board of Teaching for entry into the clock hour site. Once the entry is made, they will be eligible to use the on-line system for the renewal of their license(s).
