Dr. Gail M. Swor Named 2008 National Distinguished Principal
Dr. Gail M. Swor, principal of Poplar Bridge Elementary School in the Bloomington Public School District (Minnesota ISD #271), and a member of MESPA, is Minnesota’s 2008 National Distinguished Principal. This marks the 25th year the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals have presented the prestigious award. “I am deeply honored to represent the nearly 1,000 elementary principals in the state of Minnesota as the 2008 National Distinguished Principal,” said Dr. Swor. “I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and have made it my mission in life to do so,” she continued. RtI Data Retreat: Energize strategic principal and team leadership to deliver achievement for all students. What is RtI? Click on the link above and check out a four-minute podcast of what RtI is and is not. Essentially, Response to Intervention (RtI) is a framework to organize all work in education. RtI combines a problem solving process with data collection and data usage, integrally tying them to instructional delivery. In this two-day retreat designed for
school teams, participants will learn how to use data effectively to
improve achievement for all students in their schools; each team will develop an RtI action plan for their building.
Register today for the two-day RtI Data Retreat: Monday-Tuesday, August 11-12, held at the TIES Education Center, St. Paul. Join your colleagues from across the state including teams from Bloomington, Lester Prairie, Madelia, New Prague, and Waseca. The retreat opens with a special RtI Introduction by Kim Gibbons, Ph.D., executive director, St. Croix River Education District (SCRED).

Educational Secretaries Workshop

All relief efforts are now being coordinated through the City of Hugo. Information is being posted on the city Web site: www.ci.hugo.mn.us (Note: The site has information on where and how to make monetary and other donations.) "Oneka Elementary School was the shelter/relief site for the first 48 hours. Our staff and community volunteers were a sight to behold. It truly is the center of the community now."
