Got science? Got math?

Do you, as a principal, promote science and math?

Have you helped your school embrace STEM, or have you created a special program for staff development or students, or for the community?

Apply today for the ninth annual Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year award.

This partnership between the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association and the Science Museum of Minnesota honors the key role elementary and middle level principals play in developing a culture that encourages and celebrates math and science literacy. The award recognizes the vital importance of fostering lifelong science literacy and encouraging student interest in math and science.

Alternating between specialty and general education schools.
The award is offered in alternate years to specialty and general education elementary and middle level school principals.
  • In odd years, including the 2012-2013 school year, the award is offered to general education schools.

  • In even years, the award is offered to specialty schools (environmental, math, or science specialty/magnet schools).

Applications for 2013 Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year are due Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012.

  • Who should apply? Here are the qualifications.

In reviewing applications, the award committee will look for such indicators as the following:
