Apply today for the fourth annual Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year award.
This partnership between the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association and the Science Museum of Minnesota honors the key role elementary and middle level principals play in developing a culture that encourages and celebrates math and science literacy. The award recognizes the vital importance of fostering lifelong science literacy and encouraging student interest in math and science. Alternating between specialty and general education schools.The award is offered in alternate years to specialty and general education elementary and middle level school principals.
In even years the award is offered to specialty schools (environmental, math, or science specialty/magnet schools).
In odd years, including the 2008-2009 school year, the award is offered to general education schools.
Applications from general education schools for 2009 Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year are due Wednesday, December 10, 2008.

Who should apply? Here are the qualifications.
In reviewing applications, the award committee will look for such indicators as the following:
• Professional development and coaching or teachers
• Partnerships with other organizations
• Applying math and science standards to curriculum
• Support materials
• Out-of-school as well as in-school experiences
• Inclusion of families
• Other creative ways of fostering interest in math and science
