 | Patrick Bryan, St. Paul Division Patrick Bryan. principal of Jackson Magnet School in St. Paul, sums up his thoughts on being
an education leader with the following words from Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change that you desire.”
Among his most significant career
accomplishments, Bryan includes:
- To have led Jackson as a place of learning over
the last nine years. “Parents and families from every cultural community
are happy with the service received at Jackson Magnet,” said Bryan, “and we
have an enrollment peak that’s pushing the mortar out from between the
bricks.”
- To have built high quality partnerships serving
children and families that are deeply linked into community-based
organizations and service providers: the YWCA, the University of
Minnesota, Project Spirit/Freedom School, Hmong American Partnership,
Project Voice Collaborative, Minneapolis Children’s Theater, Wilder
Foundation, and more.
- To have led a school full of talented
individuals, students, staff, families and community members, to show high
student achievement gains, “Beating the Odds” against poverty in MCAII
Reading performance and showing the “Biggest Gains” in MCAII math
performance.* (Minneapolis Star and Tribune report, July, 2009)
MESPA members selected 12 of their
peers to receive the 2010 MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award. Bryan was nominated by his St. Paul
division colleagues, who stated:

out to his school's communities and developed rich, extensive partnerships.”
- “He is leading a school
that made large gains in reading and math, particularly with African American
students.”

advocate for the needs of children.”

- “He's gone ‘green’….riding
his bike everywhere!”
