NAESP is Vital to the Principalship: Vote in the April elections
As your MESPA State NAESP Representative, I would like to remind you how vital the NAESP organization is to all of us. The mission of the National Association of Elementary School Principals is to lead in the advocacy and support for elementary and middle level principals and other education leaders in their commitment to all children.
NAESP is committed to both your individual success and to the promotion of the profession as a whole. Our national association offers you: outstanding online support; the National Principals Resource Center; the NAESP legal benefits program with $1 million in individual professional liability coverage and up to $10,000 for legal fee reimbursement ($500 deductible; a member gains $1000 a year for each year of continuous membership up to $10,000); strong advocacy and recognition programs; and a strong voice in Washington D.C. Furthermore, there are State Executive Directors, State Representatives, and Zone Directors who all represent each state on your behalf, and who work together to support and provide information to principals nationwide.
In April, a very important election of candidates will be taking place for NAESP. One of the positions that you will be voting on is the Zone 7 Director position. This position not only links the states of Minnesota, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska within Zone 7, but this position is essential because it serves as a direct liaison between NAESP and the state associations.
MESPA endorses Kenny Jones At the February 5, 2009 MESPA board meeting, the board voted to support Wyoming’s candidate, Kenny Jones, for Zone 7 Director. MESPA Executive Director Fred Storti, President Dick Oscarson, and myself were three of 50 people who wrote letters of support for Kenny so that he could become a candidate for Zone 7 Director. We were that impressed with his credentials.
Kenny Jones has been very involved with NAESP for the past seven years as the Wyoming NAESP State Representative. He has also served on the ESEA Task Force to complete a white paper on the reauthorization of the NCLB and also participated in the Vision 2021 Scenario Development Workshop at the NAESP annual convention in Seattle.
Kenny is a dedicated educator with great pride and integrity who has outstanding leadership abilities to guide Zone 7 into the future of NAESP. I hope that you will join us in supporting Kenny Jones as the new NAESP Zone 7 Director. To read Kenny’s candidate statement and resume, visit the Press Room on the MESPA Web site at www.mespa.net.
