 | Kraig Konietzko, Northeast Division
 | | Kraig Konietzko, principal at Moose Lake Elementary, Moose Lake Schools |
For his principalship, Konietzko
sums up his educational philosophy by stating, “The greatest attribute an
educator can have is the ability to positively connect and build strong
relationships with their students and families so that they can feel valued,
appreciated, and know that you care.”
Among his most significant career
accomplishments, Konietzko includes:
1. Serving his NEMESPA colleagues (Northeast division of MESPA)
as President for two terms and President-elect for two terms. 2. Creating and establishing an active Parent Group for the
Moose Lake Elementary School. (The group has since formed into a
PTA with several members and now meets monthly at school.) 3. Forming and implementing the work of NWEA MAP district
assessment and data/leadership teams at Moose Lake schools. The NWEA MAP, i.e., Northwest Evaluation
Association Measures of Academic Progress, is a computerized, adaptive
assessment program that provides teachers, students, and parents with an
accurate assessment of students' progress in mastering basic skills.
In 2002 while at Churchill
Elementary School in Cloquet, MN, Konietzko served and was recognized as a
coordinator/facilitator for the school’s application process for the MESPA Minnesota
School of Excellence program. This
is a school improvement process recognized by the Minnesota Department of
Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. It
involves a systematic program of self-study, development of a school
improvement plan, and implementation of the plan based on demonstrated results.
Konietzko has been an active member
in MESPA. He has served on the
Board of Directors for the last four years, serving his Northeast division colleagues
as President for two years and President-elect for two years. As representative on the Communications
Committee, he has written articles about leadership best practices. He also
supports EPAC, MESPA’s political action committee.
MESPA members selected 12 of their
peers to receive the 2010 MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award. Konietzko was recommended for the award
by Willie Spelts, principal at Roosevelt Elementary School in Virginia, MN, who
said, “Kraig is a consummate professional, organized, and presents us with
knowledge and useful information.
He does many things that represent our NEMESPA well and is so very much
interested in our group along with each of us individually.” Konietzko was wholeheartedly nominated
by his Northeast division colleagues.
