WHY should Minnesota elementary and middle level principals join MESPA?

  1. A Voice in St. Paul:  MESPA keeps principals informed of state developments, advocates on behalf of children and public education, and shapes education policy by the collective influence of more than 950 MESPA members.
  2. Minnesota School of Excellence Program:  Key to our vision that MESPA will be the premiere resource for preparing today's pricipals for tomorrow and a strong leading voice for public education is the MESPA Minnesota School of Excellence program. Grounded in national standards, this comprehensive school improvement process validates schools dedicated to continual growth.
  3. Special Services for Principals: MESPA membership provides members access to accidental death and dismemberment coverage. Click on the link below for a list of benefits and services associated with each MESPA membership category.
  4. Strength in Numbers:  MESPA membership enhances the professional status of principals through programs which focus on employment rights, advocates for equity in financing public education, pursues collaborations which address mutual interests, and strengthens the leadership role of principals.
  5. National Connections:  As an association, MESPA communicates nationwide with other state elementary and middle school principal associations, and works jointly to share information and advocate as a united voice with the national principals association (NAESP).
  6. Professional Development and Networking:  MESPA professional development programs afford opportunities for principals to improve their leadership skills and earn necessary administrative continuing education credits.MESPA membership features an annual Institute (statewide convention) with national speakers at general sessions, feature and focus sessions, and statewide networking opportunities.
  7. Colleague to Colleague: MESPA's Web-based professional forum where Minnesota principals statewide talk, share, and resolve day to day concerns of the principalship.
  8. Recognition:  MESPA focuses attention on outstanding leaders and schools, including the National Distinguished Principal, Minnesota Schools of Excellence validation, Science and Mathematics Principal of the Year, and Division Leadership Achievement awards.
  9. Principal Communications:  MESPA Advocate newsletter, E-News electronic newsletter, Web site and the annual Salary and Benefits Survey provide news on Minnesota's top education issues.
  10. Legal Assistance:  MESPA assures members of support for due process for eligible job-related legal actions.
