Join us for this 1-day reunion session of the MESPA Literacy Academy with Bonnie Houck and Sandi Novak!

Who can attend?
This retreat is designed for educational leaders that have attended our 4-day MESPA Literacy Academy facilitated by Bonnie Houck and Sandi Novak over the last six years. The Literacy Academy took place over the course of four day-long sessions strategically scheduled across a four-month period, allowing participants to implement ideas and bring back examples of their work for discussion with peers.

What's it about?
This is a follow-up session to renew, refresh, celebrate, and continue your learning. This retreat is a reunion for leaders who wish to collaborate with others while refreshing their skills, deepening their leaning, and strategizing ways to bring their practice to the next level. During the Academy, leaders received and learned how to use the Literacy Classroom Visit Model and instruments to observe and confer with teachers about their reading instruction. The Model and resources have been captured in a book published through ASCD entitled, Literacy Unleashed: Fostering Excellent Reading Instruction through Classroom Visits. Many of you may have celebrated the book with us at the Literacy Unleashed Book Club during the MESPA Conference last February!

During this 1-day retreat, school and district leaders will:

  • Collaborate and learn from the successes of colleagues
  • Share their school’s literacy professional development successes and challenges
  • Learn about new, refined instruments to help with implementing literacy professional development
  • Plan next steps for their school’s continued journey of improved instructional practices

Event Cancellation Policy 

A completed online registration constitutes a bill and a commitment to pay for a full seminar payment. Due to MESPA's incurred costs (i.e. materials, meals, speaking fees, etc.) please know that unfortunately, we are unable to grant refunds within two weeks of the event's start date. Prior to the two-week mark, we are able to issue a refund, less a $50 processing fee.
