Connect, discuss, learn, and grow in educational leadership by participating in a book study group! Starting this September, we will be reading: How Women Rise: Break the 12 Habits Holding You Back from Your Next Raise, Promotion, or Job

Led by Minnesota's 2022 National Distinguished Principal, Ariana Wright, join your MESPA colleagues to read and discuss this book over 4 months beginning September 22. You can pick the time that works best for you! The AM cohort will meet via Zoom at 6:45am to 7:45am, and the PM cohort will meet via Zoom from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.

How Women Rise is an invaluable handbook for women trying to take the next step in their careers. For many women, the very skills and habits that made them successful early in their careers could actually be holding them back as they advance to the next stage of their working lives. Women can, in particular, struggle with habits like:

          1. Reluctance to claim your achievements

          2. Expecting others to spontaneously notice and reward your hard work

          3. Overvaluing expertise

          4. Just building relationships rather than building and leveraging relationships

This book aims to help women identify specific behaviors that keep them from realizing their full potential, no matter what stage they are in their career. This group will continue into a Women in Leadership Affinity group after the book discussion ends in December.

Please note: while this book is aimed at people who identify as women, leaders of all genders are absolutely welcome and encouraged to join and attend the group as well!

Request a copy from your local public library, click a link below for purchase options, or indicate that you'd like MESPA to mail you a paperback copy in the registration form!

Amazon has the book on Kindle and Audible

Used copies from BooksaMillion, Abe Books, or ThriftBooks

About your leader: Ariana Wright has been a Minnesota educator since 2001. She began her career as a music teacher, and is now the very proud principal of Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School where she has worked since 2015. She believes in a student-centered learning approach and building on the strengths of her staff. Ariana has a long history of participation with MESPA: she received the Southeast Division Leadership award in 2018, has been an Institute co-chair and breakout presenter, and was just named the 2022 National Distinguished Principal from Minnesota by MESPA and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
