 | Sibley East/Gaylord Elementary recognized by business leaders for closing the achievement gap (Gaylord, MN, September 27, 2010) — The Minnesota Business
Partnership (MBP) today presented Mari Lu Martens, principal of Sibley
East-Gaylord Elementary, with a $10,000 check to recognize the school’s success
in raising overall student performance and closing the achievement gap between
white, minority and low-income students.
John
Stanoch, Minnesota president of Qwest and chair of the Partnership’s Education
Policy Committee, presented the Minnesota’s Future Award check to Martens at a
school assembly.
“We call this the Minnesota’s Future Award, because quality education
is critical to your future and the future of our state,” Stanoch said. “We need
to recognize, encourage and learn from schools like Sibley East-Gaylord
Elementary, which teach us ‘poverty’ and ‘minority’ don’t have to be synonymous
with ‘low grades’ and ‘high failure rates.’” To read more, visit the MESPA Press Room.
