CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

W. Diane Cargile, Rio Grande School, Terre Haute, IN
I am a life long educator who loves children.  I have had the wonderful experience of working with children in rural, suburban and inner city schools. I am passionate about leading educators and guiding children.  The principal is the beacon of hope for this millennium. NAESP is the voice for principals advocating for the rights of all children.

Serving on Federal Relations with NAESP has energized me to continue to advocate for the Reauthorization of ESEA.  Principals must continue to be guardians of education; the beacons of hope who lead and nurture staff.   Working with the Vision 2021 committee and NAESP leaders to formulate the vision for the future was invigorating. Together, we can become the beacons of hope for all children. I would be honored to represent you as the president – elect of NAESP.

Deborah Harvest, Cochran Academy, East Orange, NJ
My name is Deborah Harvest and I am the proud principal of Cochran Academy located in East Orange, New Jersey. It is with great excitement for our collective professional futures that I seek election to serve as the president-elect of NAESP. As an association, NAESP acts as the voice and inspiration for our nation's elementary and middle-level principals, uniting us under a common commitment to the children of this great country.

Currently, I have the honor of serving on the NAESP Board of Directors, and among other duties worked with Board members to develop a new vision statement, goals and strategic plan. Throughout the Vision 2021 project, NAESP sought to include our members, as well as non-members, to ensure a diverse view. This is a stance I hope to expand. As a national association, we must continue to work together in shaping our profession. It is our collective responsibility to take the lad in advocating for policies, services and relationships that will make a difference for all students.

Beyond the political arena, we must work together to ensure that the public understands the great things that are going on in our schools, things made possible by the members of NAESP. Our active association leadership has cultivated our successes, giving us the opportunity to perfect ourselves as leaders. We have amazing stories to tell, and as your President-elect, I will work for you and with you to share those stories of success, stories that must be repeated across our nation.

It is with both pride and humility that I see your vote for President-elect of NAESP. My experiences with working on a variety of committees, advisory councils and the Board of Directors have provided a great understanding of the values of the association. Moreover, my years on the resolutions committee helped me to understand the true framework of everything that our association represents. Finally, my leadership experiences will enable me to lead our organization into the future. A future that embraces diversity and recognizes the voice of all. Through collaboration, consensus and respect we will reach one accord on the voice of the association. Together we can make a difference.
