Gary Chesner, principal of Northport Elementary, Robbinsdale School District
Educational philosophy: “We are all life long learners from the sandbox to the pine box.” (Jerry Hughes, former community educator and MN legislator)

Most significant career accomplishments: “I provided leadership and encouragement for staff to become culturally competent. And I was co-constructor of our district’s Logic Model, which provides direction for our desegregation efforts,” says Chesner. “I believe I had a significant influence on our school improvement model, resulting in increased test scores and improved building climate.”

Past recognitions: MESPA EPAC and Retirement committee representative over many years; Robbinsdale Area Schools Community Collaboration Council for desegregation/integration; assistant to the superintendent in the Minneapolis Public Schools; distinguished service award for 30 years with Minneapolis Public Schools.




Mission: The Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association is dedicated to promoting and improving education for children and youth, strengthening the role as educational leader for elementary and middle level principals, and collaborating with partners in education to assist in achieving these goals.
