Fine Arts Night at Clover Ridge

(March 24, 2011 -- Chaska, MN)  Fourth graders swirl around hand-dyed banners that will stream from the walls of the school.

It's part of a collection of art pieces that make up the school's annual "Fine Arts Night," held earlier this month at Clover Ridge Elementary in Chaska (June Johnson, principal).

Initially designed to showcase student art and performances, art teacher Cassie Pupovac decided it was time to step it up, and turn "Fine Arts Night" into something more.

"Showing that art has more purposes than just beautification," said Pupovac.

Now Pupovac leads a team of four teachers who work over the summer to develop the curriculum for what has become a service learning project.  That means students are selling some of their artwork, and collecting donations at "Fine Arts Night," which will then be donated to people in underdeveloped nations.
