2010 Division Leadership Award, Julie Nielsen
Julie Nielsen, principal at Middleton Elementary School, South Washington County Schools, was nominated for the East Suburban MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award by her peers. The award honors principals whose exemplary leadership and sustained efforts have made noteworthy contributions to the operation of effective school learning programs --  improving education, their communities, and their profession.

Nielsen sums up her thoughts about being a leader with her favorite quote:  “Champions get up the next day.”  She said, “With the many changes and limited resources, it could be easy to do what has always been done.  I believe that champions get up each day to make a difference.  In big or small ways, our students are counting on us.”
