MESPA Class of 2007-2008
Surviving and Thriving in the Principalship:
a seminar for new elementary and middle level principals and new MESPA members (first and second-year principals, assistant principals, interns, and principals new to the state of Minnesota).

Build the network of peers and resources you need to succeed!
The Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association (MESPA) presents the full day Surviving and Thriving in the Principalship seminar, with an optional second day of the Three-Minute Walkthrough seminar.

Practical advice from people who understand the flow of your work. Network statewide with others new to the profession and presenters who are practitioners in the field.  Seminar topics are designed to support you in your role as an elementary or middle level principal and MESPA member.

  • MESPA: the benefits of membership in a responsive, grassroots association.
  • School law for new principals with Roger Aronson, MESPA legal and legislative counsel.
  • Data usage and Response to Intervention with Dr. Benjamin Silberglitt, TIES, Manager Data Services.
  • Reflections from the 2008 Minnesota National Distinguished Principal, Dr. Gail M. Swor.
  • Ask the Experts: advice from practitioners in the field, a panel of experienced Minnesota principals.
  • Optional Day 2, the Three-Minute Walkthrough! An important tool to help you set your school on a continuous improvement cycle.

Comments from 2007 New Principals:
  • The seminar was nice because it opened doors that I did not know existed or how to access.
  • Great workshop, knowing where to go for support is very beneficial.
  • Great refreshments, resources, and facility.
  • I really enjoyed the law portion of the workshop.
  • I appreciated the insight of all presenters.
  • Great way to network with others that are at the same place in their career as me.
  • Wonderful, professional, inspiring presenters!
  • Ton of great information.
  • The panel was an excellent presentation.  I would suggest replacing the data topic with a topic that can provide us with something tangible we can take back with us.
  • Thanks.
  • I really enjoyed the sessions and the opportunity to connect with other colleagues.
  • I would have loved more time to hear the Q & A and Legal issues.  I do know we were limited by time, but both were very useful to listen too.
  • Connecting with others – more about MESPA.
  • The handouts were very useful in informing me of upcoming topics and events
  • It is nice to have many presenters here so that we have a bigger network of people to ask questions to.
  • The Web site has lots of resources…thank you.
  • I appreciate the networking with other principals and other new principals.
  • Roger was great – lots of information.
