Suraya Driscoll, Northern Division

Suraya Driscoll, principal of South Point Elementary, East Grand Forks
Educational philosophy: “Education is constantly changing and growing. I believe that education provides us the opportunity to be lifelong learners who continually reflect, inquire, implement, and adjust for success.”

Driscoll lists as her three most significant career accomplishments:
Implementing goal-setting school wide
– “All children and adults set goals at South Point Elementary and revisit them weekly. Students revisit their goals in journals, class discussions, and with parents every nine weeks.”

Implementing the Responsive Classroom approach school wide. “We move closer each year to becoming a Responsive School through learning seminars. Professional learning communities are focusing on the seven guiding principles of the Responsive Classroom approach.”

The collegial opportunity to serve as MESPA Northern Division president. “Serving as president provided professional growth and networking opportunities to continue learning as a principal. The support and knowledge that is shared among colleagues has guided me with helping our children in East Grand Forks attain their goals.”

In nominating Driscoll, Joleen DeLaHunt (principal, Menahga) said: “As an instructional leader, Suraya stands at the top. She works tirelessly to systemically implement strategies that have provided equal opportunity and excellence for all students at South Point Elementary.”
