For over 90 years, Scholastic has shared a common goal with educators like you across the country—to ensure that every child, regardless of ability or economic status, has access to quality education. Our goal is to partner with you in your mission to support the continuous and sustainable improvement of student achievement and, in the process, help all children learn to read and read to learn!

The Scholastic Classroom & Community Group reinforces learning inside and outside of the classroom, providing young people with texts that are relevant and engaging, educators with professional development and resources to do their jobs better, and communities with literacy mentoring programs and partnerships to spread a love of books and learning.

Classroom Solutions:
The Scholastic Classroom & Community Group offers a wide variety of paperbacks and other instructional materials at a variety of reading levels to enhance classroom instruction and help every student learn to read, achieve, and succeed!

Teacher Effectiveness:
Research has shown that providing professional development for teachers is critical to improving classroom instruction and student achievement. Scholastic offers an array of Professional Development services and resource materials that meet the specific needs of your teachers and help you turn good teaching into great teaching!

Scholastic FACE (Family and Community Engagement):
Our comprehensive, research-based solutions to improving children’s literacy achievement in school and beyond are built on the proven results of action research and focus on the belief that student success in the classroom and in later in life is set against the backdrop of a child’s home and community. Ruth Culham Webinar, 2 p.m., 1/24/12
Ruth Culham will share how she has created an entire writing program based on the 6+1 Traits of Writing. The program is based on 25 years of research and best practices and is built on the cornerstone of writing practices: writing process, writing workshop, and writing traits.

Traits Writing
is a year-round writing program with NEW grade-specific resources! Ruth will discuss the spiraled sequence designed to teach the traits with a focus on the key qualities. Mentor Texts will be used weekly within the lesson to model the key qualities of the Traits. You will hear how to address writing in whole class, differentiated small groups, one-on-one conferences, and partner conversation checks.  In addition, Ruth will discuss how the Traits Writing Program will meet the demands of Common Core State Standards. The session is set for an hour, and will include Q and A.

Space is limited. Please RSVP to me at SCCGAuthorTrainingrsvp@scholastic.com by Monday, January 23, if you would like to attend.

I will forward you the call-in information and the WebEx link. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call or email. I hope you are looking forward to this session with Ruth Culham! Thanks. LeNae Williamson, Account Executive, Scholastic Classroom & Community Group, lwilliamson@scholastic.com, (651) 399-6388.
