Renewing administrative licenses

Administrative licensure renewal is processed by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Five-year administrative licenses expire on June 30 of the year of expiration. MDE accepts applications for renewal after January 1 of the year of expiration. Administrators are encouraged to renew early. To visit the MDE licensure site, click here.

To renew your five-year license to serve as a school administrator, you must submit the following to the MDE, Educator Licensing:

  • Renewal Application and Conduct Review Statement; and
  • Completion certificates totaling 125 CEUs (continuing educational units, or "clock hours," for educational and supervisory continuing education/professional development that have been pre-approved by MBSA).

Note: The certificates must have been earned during the five-year period immediately before renewal of the license. Clock hours cannot carry forward into any subsequent five-year licensure period.
