Funding for Bullying Prevention Resources

HOW DO YOU FIND FUNDING to bring bullying prevention resources to your school?
For guidance in writing grants, or in seeking Peace Maker Foundation or stimulus funding, scroll down.

HOW TO USE YOUR SCHOOL PREVENTION RESOURCES
How might a school plan to use monies that come in through the Peace Maker Foundation, or elsewhere? The wish lists below may be helpful, but remember they are ballpark approximations. What you can actually purchase will vary with the size of your school.

If you have up to $1,000:

Purchase the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire and survey all students or do a random sampling of at least 300 students to determine if bullying is an issue in your school.
Use these funds to purchase Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) related program materials that could be used prior to purchasing OBPP or as a supplement to OBPP: for example: Peaceful School Bus Program ($ 119.00 each; recommend schools have one
copy for each committee member that would help implement the program); Cyber bullying curricula ($ 99/each--purchase multiple copies if you can so teachers can share).

If you have $1,000 to $ 4,000:
Purchase the OBPP program materials and do additional fundraising to pay for the OBPP training.

If you have $4,000 to $8,000:
Depending on the size of the school, this amount most likely will pay for both the program materials and training for one school for OBPP.

STIMULUS FUNDING? Due to the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), an unprecedented amount of stimulus funding ($105 billion) is being made available to K-12 schools and other educational organizations across the country. Certain categories of these funds could possibly be used to purchase program materials and OBPP training. Violence Prevention Funding

Obtaining funding for a prevention program is often a key concern for schools and other institutions. Fortunately, many organizations offer financial assistance in the forms of grants and donations. For a list of current funding opportunities, updated weekly, visit the Olweus Web site.

The mission of the Peace Maker Foundation is to give schools tools to stop violence. Their goal is for every school to have the resources it needs to teach kids how to resolve conflicts and to be a safe place where kids can learn and reach their potential.

The Peace Maker Foundation is a federation of schools that raises contributions on behalf of the violence prevention programs of its members.

Receiving funding through a partnership with the Peace Maker Foundation is different than receiving a grant. Schools need to be committed to working on an ongoing basis to help their students learn to be peacemakers. The federation doesn't make one-time grants.

Any K-12 school located in Minnesota can become affiliated with the Peace Maker Foundation.The minimum funding a school can receive if $500; there is no maximum. In 2010, the Peace Maker Foundation distributed $83,000. Their goal for 2011 is $123,000!

The first step in seeking funding is to complete a statement of interest form.
